We also sell made-to-order ostrich eggs at Chatsworth (R200 per egg). Large Eggs (Mixed) trays are no longer available. Availability of each size may vary — contact us to confirm current stock.

Unwashed eggs still have their natural protective bloom on the shell and may show light speckling or farm markings. Washed eggs have been cleaned for a smooth, uniform appearance. We no longer sell Large Eggs (Mixed) trays. All chicken eggs we currently stock are washed.

No. Our Large Eggs (Mixed) trays of washed and unwashed eggs are no longer available. We now sell fully washed chicken eggs in every size from Small to Super Jumbo. WhatsApp us to confirm which sizes are in stock today.

We no longer sell unwashed eggs. If you still have unwashed eggs from an earlier purchase, rinse each egg gently under cool running water just before you crack or cook with it — not before storing. Do not soak eggs in water. Refrigerate promptly after purchase.

Our eggs are cage-free, not free-range. This means our hens are not kept in cages and have the freedom to move around indoors, ensuring better welfare conditions than conventional caged farming.

Double yolk eggs naturally occur in our Jumbo (80g–90g) and Super Jumbo (95g–100g) sizes due to their larger size. While these sizes have a higher chance of containing a double yolk, we do not guarantee that every single egg will be a double yolk. It is a natural occurrence and part of what makes these sizes special.

No. Ostrich eggs are Chatsworth only. Chicken egg trays remain available at both stores.

One ostrich egg feeds 8 to 12 people — about the same as 20 chicken eggs.

The shell is too tough to crack by hand. Use a small saw or serrated knife. Once cracked, treat it like a normal egg.

An ostrich egg keeps for months refrigerated, and a few weeks at room temperature.

Whole eggs in the shell should not be frozen. However, you can crack eggs, beat them lightly, and freeze in an airtight container for up to 12 months.

Unwashed eggs keep their natural bloom, which helps protect the shell. We currently sell washed eggs only — refrigerate them promptly and use within about 3 to 5 weeks for best quality.
